Benito’s – Fort Worth, Texas

This is not a Tex-Mex restaurant. It is real deal Mexican food.

Benito’s has been around for 30+ years.  Located in the Fairmont neighborhood on Magnolia, it is pretty easy to find.

You walk in, are swiftly seated and your drink order taken. Go ahead and order chips and hot sauce at this time as it is never automatically just delivered. Remember, NOT Tex Mex. It is like eating in Mexico.

Order the guacamole. At $5.50, it is a huge portion and the best in town.

I ordered the Combo #8.  It has a ground beef taco, a shredded beef taco, and a Mexican taco, and rice and beans. All tacos come on homemade flour tortillas. Delicious homemade flour tortillas.

The ground beef taco is ground beef perfectly flavored with potatoes and cooked peppers. It reminds me of Cuban Picadillo as it is just a tad sweet. It comes with lettuce and tomato.

Next is the shredded beef taco. It is just that – a shredded beef taco.

Then, there is the Mexican taco. Prepare to be wowed. Barbacoa served with finely chopped onions, cilantro, and a spicy green sauce, this was my absolute favorite. I have never be so floored as this by the greatness of a taco. I bet I told Jorge, our server, about 4 times how much I loved it.

Jorge, by the way, was excellent. He was knowledgeable and came with a spicy heat index warning for our food, which I appreciated. Ask for him.

My friend Robert ordered the Combo #3. It has rice and beans, a tamale served in the husk, a ground beef taco, and a cheese enchilada. All were thoroughly enjoyed.

Benito’s is not at all expensive considering the amount of food they give you. I have never been able to finish a plate in one sitting.

Get here as soon as you can.
