West Side Cafe – Fort Worth, Texas

On the far west side of town is a cafe. More like a diner.

The sign out front reads:

This is West Side Cafe.

When you walk in, the waiting area has a bench to sit on lining the wall. You will need it if you come on weekend mornings.

The walls are lined with Veteran memorabilia, from what I assume were gifts from the patrons that eat here.

Once inside the dining area, there are booths and tables and more tables in the back room.

If you don’t want to wait and there is available seating, eat at the bar. It has those cool round, backless seats that you think of when you imagine the perfect diner experience. Along the top of the counter are menus, condiments, and small plates with big pieces of Oatmeal Cake or Chocolate cake with plastic wrap over them.

Breakfast is plentiful and inexpensive. The pancakes are cooked to perfection and so light and fluffy. It will be the closest thing you ever come to eating a cloud.

You will never see the bottom of your coffee cup. As busy as it always is, your waitress is on it.

Breakfast is served all day, but they may run out of biscuits if you want breakfast for supper.  They start serving the rest of the menu at 10:30 am.

I highly recommend the Chicken Fried Chicken.  I get mine with gravy on the side. The boneless piece is large and super crispy. It comes with 2 sides. I got the Mac & Cheese and Squash casserole.

The MAC & Cheese is creamy and gooey and homemade. There is only one way for me to describe the Squash Casserole – it tastes like Thanksgiving. Just try it and see.

Speaking of Thanksgiving, the Sunday Special is always Turkey and Dressing. There is always a line and they always run out.

Then there is pie. Man, I love pie. Chocolate, Coconut, Apple, Buttermilk, Pecan. They have it all.

The people are friendly with patrons of all ages and walks of life. The service is attentive. The food is delicious and inexpensive.

Don’t come here for a tattoo.

Get here soon, Y’all!
