Meso Maya – Fort Worth, Texas

If I were to wear an I ❤ Meso Maya t-shirt with flashing lights while throwing a Mardi Gras-esque parade with sky writers above, it would not be sufficient enough to express how delighted I am with Meso Maya.

Located in Tanglewood on Hulen in the old Rock Fish location, Meso Maya has made a new home. It’s fancy but not intimidating.

There is a really nice patio area near the entrance with plenty of seating.

When you walk inside you see the bar. at the top are color coordinated tequilas. They have a wide range cocktail menu and all their drinks come out attractive. Difficult decision number 1.

Difficult decision number 2 lies in what to order.

This not Tex Mex. This is authentic Mexican food from the Central and Oaxacan regions of Mexico. But don’t worry. The staff is phenomenal and they will hold your hand and walk you through it.

Let’s start with the basics.

I am a big lover of iced tea. Theirs is Mango flavored, fresh, and comes with an orange slice. I never saw the bottom of my glass.

Chips and hot sauce were brought out. I overdid it a little and my mouth was on fire so I asked for an order of corn tortillas. They make them in-house and even grind the corn. They came out hot, large, and soft like a good flour tortilla. And they stayed that way. You don’t need any butter.  They were the best corn tortillas I have ever had.

Next, we got a combo of guacamole and queso. The guacamole was super fresh and the white queso was smooth, creamy and yes, a tortilla went swimming in it.

Nick, our server, helped me pick out the Asada Budin Azteca. It was like a lasagna with corn tortillas, queso fresca, with a red chili sauce with cubes of beef, golden potatoes, and black beans. Definitely, food to savor, it was delicious.

We ate during Brunch time. Also at the table was Mexican Toast. It’s 2 slices of French toast topped with fresh strawberry, blueberry, caramelized banana, and mango with vanilla cream cheese, drizzled with a cinnamon sauce. We cut into it and found another layer of fruit and cream cheese in the middle.
