I love Texas adventures. Even in the smallest of towns, you can find the coolest places.
My friend Lisa told me how great Del Norte Tacos are.
I was on a separate adventure today and found myself near enough to Godley, Texas to stop and check it out.
I think Godley, Texas is going to see me more often.
Chris and Mary Garcia have taken a small, pretty much unnoticeable building and made it look great. Then they have all this land around it that they use for a huge outdoor music venue with a playground, places to play Horseshoes and on top of that, it is dog-friendly.
Now, once inside you are in a small room to place your order. That’s where Micki and Lydia took our order, answered a ton of my questions, and were so very genuinely sweet and happy to help me.
You place your order, pay, and go find a place to sit. In the even smaller room, next to the room where you place your order, you can get tea, utensils, some of their homemade hot sauce, and beans.
The beans are free. The beans are delicious. These aren’t plain jane pinto beans. These are like magic beans. They are made from a secret recipe they will not share. That’s OK. They are free, so just go back for some more. The lady behind me told me her mother comes to town to get her hair done down the road and she always comes to Del Norte for a glass a tea and some beans on Hair Day.
Two really nice ladies let me take pictures of their food. It looked so good. They confirmed to me it was. I whole heartedly believed them.
Someone at another table had Chips and Queso that looked great.
I was starving. Just as I was about to go get more beans, Lydia entered the room and saved the day by bringing me tacos.
My friend Robert got Ground Beef Tacos. D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-S. Perfectly seasoned.
I went for a Brisket Taco and a Blackened Fish Taco.
The brisket was rich with a hint of sweet. They serve BBQ there too so brisket will play a part in my future trips to Godley.
The Blackened Fish Taco was Tilapia and was covered with their Southwest Sauce over slaw. I am not really Fish Taco kind of chick, but this was impressive. So impressive, there was not even a hint that there was a fish taco in my food basket.
Both meals came with a light rice with corn and cilantro and some guacamole.
Before I left, I talked to 2 really cool guys that were there to pick up their take out orders. I was excited to tell them what I had, just like a seasoned regular customer. Because I am now.
